I don't know what's recommended, but I managed to fit my own 2mm gasket ones in. The plastic ones just slip on the metal, as this spur doesn't have the ridges to hold it in place, so its either no slip or all slip. There is an afermarket machined POM verson of the spur that does have the ridges to hold the slipper pad, it gets good reviews, but it seems a lot harder to come by
